Knitting can be a way of preserving cultural records and passing them down through generations.
In this presentation, Sylvia shares her creative journey and how she communicates her sense of identity through hand knitting and embraces the art of storytelling through her designs.
Speaker biography
Sylvia Watts-Cherry is a British designer who loves bold patterns and striking colours. She learned to knit at an early age and is a prolific knitter. Her identity is important to her, and she likes to draw influence from her African heritage and Scottish upbringing in her designs.
As well as self-publishing patterns, Sylvia has patterns published in Vogue Knitting Magazine, The Journal of Scottish Yarns, Laine Magazine, Pompom Quarterly, By Hand Serial, Taproot, Knit Now and other publications. Sylvia’s patterns have also appeared in:
